SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Financial Systems Supervisor, the Accountant I performs day-to-day moderately complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements. The incumbent uses PeopleSoft automated financial system software. The Accountant II performs more complex accounting work requiring application of generally accepted accounting principles, concepts and practices to a wide variety of more difficult problems. The incumbent may serve as a lead worker for a specific accounting related function or area. The incumbent may also be responsible for system setup, testing and use of PeopleSoft financial system software.
|Duties:||Other duties may be assigned. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions. Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules. Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits. Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Sets up and documents automated accounting systems and accounting control procedures. Sets up and tracks financial information on projects. Review and process accounts payable invoices, employee expense reports, and company check requests for administrative policy compliance. Maintain subsidiary ledgers. Distribute, collect and process credit card reconciliations. Maintain vehicle mileage records. Enters data and processes reports using the PeopleSoft Financials system. |

Accountant I – Salary Grade 7 ($42,960 min – $53,898 mid – $64,575 max): A four year bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of three years of professional accounting experience is required.
Accountant II – Salary Grade 9 ($53,772 min – $68,318 mid – $82,533 – max): A four year bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of six years of directly related professional accounting experience is required. At least three years of qualifying experience should be in a rural electric or utility environment.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and peers.
Math Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Outlook. Ability to use the PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A current driver’s license is required.
WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Works a regular work week but may be required to work additional hours to meet deadlines.
